and do something a little crazy. Go ahead. Put yourself first on your list. I know it's hard. I've been a mom for 22 years now, and I put myself on the back burner years ago. But now it's time for me to move to the front and turn up the heat. I'm hoping you'll join me. I've got some great ideas and some big plans. I'll warn you, though, they are not the kind of plans that most women my age would be making. But then again, I'm not most women.

I have some very definite ideas about living a healthy life. I have let that "on the back burner" thing hold me back from being completely committed to this way of life for a long time. But I've decided to truly beging practicing what I preach. I'm going to see if I can turn a few things around, maybe turn the clock back a little and really learn how to live a life for me. I'm going to be writing regularly about my outlook, my goals and my ups and downs. There is power in numbers, so I hope some of you will choose to come with me on this journey. Let's conquer this together!

A little about me. I have 46 years of experience here on this planet. Some of those years have been tougher than others, but some have been downright awesome. I have 3 gorgeous kids -- a son who is 22, a daughter who is 20 and my baby girl who is 15. They have been my life since the day I found out I was carrying the first one. Their dad and I are no longer married, but we try to work things out together for them. Some days is easier than others there, too. I'm remarried now to a good guy. But there's a lot to be said about blended families. ALOT. We'll get there now and then, too. I also have a stepdaughter who's 18. I'm a full-time 5th grade teacher, and I just recently earned my master's degree. Needless to say, I've been pretty busy most of the time. EXCUSE WARNING -- these are the things that I have told myself hold me back from working out or making good food choices. WRONG! That's just me being lazy. And that's what leads me here. I've made time for family, work, their sports, scouts, activities and general running around, and I've made time and maintained focus and discipline to earn a master's degree in all of this.

Think about something that you want to do for yourself. I started last year. I decided, after years of NOT exercising, ever, that I wanted to run a 5K. So my first time out, I ran/walked and had a ball. Now, I'm a coach for Girls on the Run at my school, and I ran 2.5 miles of a 3.1 (5K) race before I finally had to walk. We run again in May. This time, I WILL RUN THAT WHOLE RACE. That's a baby step. This summer, I want to run a mud run. I'm cleaning up my act so I can down and dirty at the Mudathlon or Dirty Girl Mud Run. Come on. Let's do this!
